Paper Abstract:
|
One of the perceived benefits of game-based learning is the ability of games to engage and motivate students.
Theories of engagement relating to games are not commonly used when considering engagement with higher
education learning activities, and this paper highlights the potential to learn from one domain and apply to the
other. Selected literature on engagement with computer games is examined, drawn together with the findings
from a series of interviews, and applied in an educational setting. A number of factors are presented that are
hypothesised to contribute to engagement with a learning activity and there is a brief discussion of how these
factors were applied to create an engagement measurement scale. |
