Paper Abstract:      Design is one of the most complex types of problem solving tasks and it involves several aspects and components. Its cognitive processes and procedures should be conveyed to the learners through lectures and tutorials (revision sessions), but models have still to be defined and made clear in order to improve either in presence or distant learning and teaching. Modeling these processes is crucial in order to develop an advanced web based learning environment. This paper discusses the cognitive, pedagogical and conversational models that may lead to the development of design tutoring systems. We will start by discussing the pedagogical model, the relation between problem solving and design showing their aspects and framework, the components of tutorial discourse. Then we will proceed presenting the protocol analysis used in our research, finally we will draw our findings and conclusions with possible guidelines and suggestions.
