Paper Abstract:      In recent years, higher education institutions have set up technological infrastructures made up of a variety of applications, different platforms, academic systems and cloud applications. This situation leads to a management, cost and performance problem that requires the adoption of effective governance mechanisms consistent at the implementation level. On the other hand, the adoption of these information technology governance (ITG) mechanisms in higher education is not treated in the same way in terms of efficiency and implementation in the literature. In order to determine what the main different implementations of these mechanisms and their effectiveness, we propose a literature review (LR). This review is based on a comparative analysis of the different approaches resulting from multiple case studies targeting hundreds of universities in different countries. Although these mechanisms have long been used in the private sector, this article shows that they are increasingly adopted in the literature and practice of the academic sector. The qualitative and quantitative results of this LR revealed that most of the good practices that have shown effectiveness are implemented within universities. At the end, our article presents the recommendations of the implementation of these mechanisms in order to set up a more efficient ITG.
