Paper Abstract:

New media born in the digital information environment are gaining momentum and are changing the business models of
traditional media on the go. Traditional journalism is giving way to the ever-increasing pace of the contemporary news
stream. The work of the conventional journalist in the e-society remains unnoticed and unappreciated, regardless of the
turbulent development of the media industry and the speed of information and communication technology advancement
worldwide. New media give much faster access to information diverse in volume, quality, and style. This creates the
necessity to realize the responsibility that mass communication means bear in their new form of online manifestation
seeking the answer to the question: What kind of journalism does the world need today? This report aims to give a new
definition of the term media industry by looking at the contemporary state of Bulgarian media, defining the subjects and
objects of intellectual property in the media, defining the components of the media - journalist - media content - media
product chain as concepts that characterize the copyright protection of authors in the media, following the integrative
relations between them. The research looks the acting media organizations and the possibility for them to work as an
organization for collective rights management to protect the rights of traditional journalists working in media in the
conditions of fundamental change of the media environment. Researched are the transformations in the media sector as a
variation for the creation of media content. Looked for are the professional journalistic competencies required for the
creation of a new journalistic product that walks the edge between reality and abstraction. |
