Paper Abstract:      This paper proposes and tests a methodology for analyzing and developing students’ competences in terms of project management. We use a web-based self-evaluation application, especially oriented for students acting as project managers. We consider thirty competences for project manager’s work, which can be classified into six competence groups: self-knowledge, self-control, cognitive capability, social skills, motivating oneself and empathy. Some competencies are threshold competences and some differentiating competences. Our proposal consists of two phases. First, students self-evaluate their competences at current and target level. They evaluate statements related to their work, instead of evaluating competences directly. The results are analyzed and visualized at group levels and could help in determining relations and interrelations among individuals showing similar perception of their own competence levels. The goal is to plan and carry out competence based target training for groups of individuals. A second evaluation consists in students’ perception on the validity of methodology and the self-evaluation results, meaning their opinion and up to what point they agree with it.
