Paper Abstract:      The purpose of this study is to investigate learners’ characteristics, such as their cognitive styles, metacognitive knowledge and their information seeking skills. This study is designed as a qualitative case study. Researchers were developed a web based chemistry unit on periodic table and its applications in a web based chemistry course. Data were collected through interviews, observations and document analysis on high school students. The results of this study showed that; the methods students used in studying WBC and information seeking in the Internet seemed to be dependent upon their cognitive styles as field dependent or field independent. Moreover, differences between two cognitive styles found to be reflected in their metacognitive knowledge in which field independents found to be more efficient in refining new strategies when they failed in searching for information.
