Paper Abstract:
|
Technology has been a chief influence on enterprise architecture development in the past (Melling, 1994) and can be a predictor for the future. Generation Z workers will be punching in with higher technological competencies accompanied with a computing culture that may have or should have a new influence on enterprise architectures. If enterprise architecture is to provide an infrastructure to achieve business goals through business processes and technology, it seems logical to assert that enterprise architecture planning should consider the incoming computing demographics of future generations of the workforce. This paper will: examine demographics of U.S. workforce computing literacy over the past 25 years for both current and emerging generations - juxtaposed with the evolution of enterprise architectures; and identify a phenomenon where the increasing competencies of youth, particularly in the area of social computing, may dictate the need to reshape the paradigm of enterprise architecture planning. |
