Paper Abstract:
|
Interactive TV entertainment is a new form of game industry. It has a lot of potential but at the moment Finnish iTVentertainment
is mostly suffering from bad reputation, caused by commercialism around it and problematic target groups.
A qualitative study of SMS-to-TV human-hosted interactive TV mobile games was conducted by recording sample of
interactive TV programs and corresponding discussion forums on the Internet and analyzing the content. iTV-programs
were analyzed and discussed to answer these questions: How do people feel toward iTV entertainment? Why is it often
interpreted to be a ruthless means to collect money from the under-aged (chargeable iTV-games are forbidden for users
under legal age. In Finland the age limit is 18 years.)? What is the significance of a live host as an activator and what are
the real target groups? This research is important beyond Finland since Finland tends to pioneer interactive entertainment
that later spreads out to other countries. |
