Paper Abstract:      This paper discusses some critical issues in security and privacy, in individual as well as in organizational electronic collaboration, by exposing the case of electronic commerce. It first focuses on online security and details current means to ensure security in electronic transactions, whatever their form. It then gets to the delicate question of privacy, for which it reveals some usual methods Web sites collect information on their users, some traps in privacy policies to be aware of, and how privacy is currently dealt with in the context of electronic commerce. The paper concludes that privacy is still ignored today although technical possibilities of anonymity, presented in the last section, exist and are known as a way to obtain privacy. This section takes up the example of Chaum’s Electronic Cash payment system.
