Paper Abstract:      Web services are some relatively new kind of middleware designed for use within the Internet. To save time and costs, it may be useful to re-use the functionality of existing services in the development of new software systems. This process of re-use is called web service composition. Still, there are some open topics currently under research, one of them being the question how to consider the capabilities of basic services to achieve the best quality for the composed service. Current web service standards are not equipped to consider non-functional demands of a user to a composed service. This paper presents an approach to enhance the web services architecture by considering QoS aspects in the composition of a complex service. A QoS broker is introduced which can assign QoS information to basic services and which aggregates this information due to a workflow pattern of a composed service. The broker completes the directory service UDDI by mediating composed services in a QoS-based way. The concept is prototypically implemented and evalu
