Paper Abstract:      To date, an increasing number of users is exploring the Internet. Additionally, these users are becoming multimedia content providers themselves, resulting in an enormous multimedia environment. MPEG-21 tries to provide means to this environment for the creation of entire cross-platform multimedia architectures. It is important to introduce an efficient and robust digital rights management system to cope with this plethora of users and content. This paper gives an overview of and combines several parts of the MPEG-21 standard to construct a digital license system for online multimedia architectures. The feasibility of the system is demonstrated in the EU FP6 IST project DANAE.
