Paper Abstract:

Researches have proved that games and education can be a powerful alliance to aid students to engage in learning process, especially in higher education. Data structures are a basic concept explored in IT courses, and also a vital discipline. It is important that the student have a good understanding of this subject. This paper describes an Interactive Learning Enviroment tool for Data Structure classes in IT courses, using videogame concepts and mechanics as a motivational resource, called gamification . One of the main purpose of the system is to create several mini-games related to Data Structures. These are from different types and evolve from arrays, stack, queue, lists and trees, some of the most common structures. The system includes leaderboards and achievements for those who obtained a positive performance by the offered tasks. It is also in constant development and evaluation. The main reason is that we are looking forward to develop a tool to support teaching Data Structures. |
