Paper Abstract:
|
In recent years there has been a remarkable increase in research and experimentation endeavoring to identify the most effective ways of leveraging gaming technologies for serious applications. One such area is the development of pioneering training and therapy solutions for the mental health domain. This paper describes the application of an innovative bimodal emotion recognition system consisting of audio and text classification to video gaming applications where the core goal is to train Emotion Regulation (ER). ER describes ones ability to understand and accept his or her emotional experience, to engage in healthy strategies to manage uncomfortable emotions when necessary, and to engage in appropriate behavior when distressed in a manner that is socially tolerable. The objective of these gaming applications is not to win as with leisure games but to attain a greater level of self-control and to recognize ones emotions. This paper presents a novel bimodal emotion recognition system and proposes its use as a complimentary data capture tool in said serious games. |
