Paper Abstract:
|
Text chat rooms have been used as an important tool for online group learning, but little research has examined the interactive qualities of second language (L2) learners in text chat rooms. This study explores the role of interaction in L2 learners group learning processes by examining their participation in text chat rooms. Participants text chat transcripts revealed varying levels of textual, social, and technological interactions. The results showed that the L2 learners often participated in social and technological interactions without exchanges of text information. The study suggests that the online language teachers guide students textual interactions in online learning environments. |
