Paper Abstract:
|
While the potential for educational technology to impact educational achievement has been described for years, little evidence on the promise has been found in literature over and over without the delivery on that promise (Conlon & Simpson, 2003; Cuban, 2001; Fishman, 2006; Sandholtz, 2001). Now a call for scientifically based research may limit the type of studies that are being conducted or valued (Chatterji, 2005). This paper reports on a three step investigation of the goals, challenges, and implementation of thoughtful educational technology research in the current climate. We gathered data from educational technology researchers around world and sought to understand the response and impact, if any, to the current demand for scientifically based studies. Additionally, this research sought to begin a dialogue among researchers with the goal of identifying a proactive research agenda. |
