Paper Abstract:
|
A distributed digital gazetteer for city is a geographic information discovery service that consists of several components distributed over a network of computers. WSDGC is particularly designed for people and enterprise in cities. This paper focuses primarily on how we develop and implement the city gazetteer service, including architecture, feature types, and geographic data elements. We design a feature type for city and discuss how we treat duplicate geographic names and varying geographic names. We also put forward a method to deal with the representation of footprint. In order to be easily accessed and standardized, we implemented the architecture using Web Service, and our work demonstrates the feasibility of applying web services on distributed gazetteer and evaluates its performance. |
