Paper Abstract:
|
With increasing pressure from globalization and increasing competition, there is a drive among small and medium sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) to introduce innovative ways for dissecting business processes into e-business applications. This paper aims in helping SMEs adapt new technology, handheld device (PDA), to increase competitiveness in global market through technology transfer from collaboration between academia and industry. The application of PDA facilitates SME to react faster to market fluctuation with a little cost. It enhances information flow of material transaction with supplier and extends information sharing capability to executives and other managers, who can now have better control and better management of material consumption and transaction costs. The application also benchmarks the workflow of operation process using PDA to manage and control materials transaction from external source (suppliers) to internal operation (warehousing) in a company. The results demonstrated the transformation process of managing physical flow via better information flow in an attempt to facilitate learning and changes in the company. |
