Paper Abstract:
|
This paper is concerned with the meaning of community in online settings. It describes the background to online learning
and the central role of community in collaborative learning approaches. The paper discusses notions of community across
different settings and settles on a definition of online learning community as one which shows spirit, trust, interaction and
learning. A short scenario is introduced to illustrate the opportunity and difficulty in finding evidence of community, in
particular the evidence that learning has taken place. The paper concludes by arguing that it is meaningful to talk of
online learning communities and argues for a multi method approach to researching the nature of community within an
online learning group. |
