Paper Abstract:      This paper discusses the efficacy of improving logical thinking skills (LTS) through stand-alone computer-based training (CBT) interventions. Interventions are needed in that students do not leave the school system with the LTS that are needed in the workplace and life itself. LTS can be taught through traditional means, yet many teachers, in developed and developing countries, do not emphasize logical thinking skills while some teachers only focus on rote memorization. Consequently, it is important to know whether stand-alone CBT interventions can be a partial solution to the problem and, if so, how does one create effective interventions. However, only a small number of studies have evaluated whether computers can be used to effectively teach LTS and the researchers rarely described the instructional strategy used. This paper summarizes the research on using stand-alone CBT to teach LTS.
