Paper Abstract:      Response time for downloading Web pages has been studied from various perspectives. Most studies examine how response time is affected by network and server conditions and configuration differences. The design and composition of Web pages is seldom considered when studying response time. While Web page design and response time are both essential factors in e-commerce, this paper proposes a method for studying the effects of Web page design and characteristics, termed as Web page complexity, on the page’s response time. The aspects studied include the number of embedded objects in a Web page, the total size of the Web page, and Web page design options such as specifying the width of embedded images. Based on our findings, a model of Web page response time as a function of page complexity will be introduced.
