Paper Abstract:
|
The personas method has recently gained popularity in the field of information systems development, but the literature
about the method as well as empirical studies of its use in practice is still limited. In this paper we focus on the scenario
part of the persona method from a conceptual and empirical point of view. Conceptually we examine how personascenarios
are defined in the literature. As persona-scenarios are stories about personas using IT systems we particularly
explore the relationship between persona-scenarios and narrative theory in order to define what a persona-scenario is and
which narrative elements it might consist of. The conceptual clarification is used as an analytical lens for understanding
an empirical study of a workshop intervention held as a part of a large project concerned with redesign of an e-report
portal for Danish governmental bodies. The aim of the workshop was to develop persona-scenarios about the future use
of e-reports. The contribution of this paper is an analytical lens that delineates the narrative elements a persona-scenario
could/should consist of and a suggestion for how to apply the developed lens in order to write persona-scenarios that
generate and validate as many new understandings and design ideas as possible. |
