Paper Abstract:
|
In the developing world, Medical Missions are used to bring free health care to rural settings. To date, Medical Missions have been limited to a paper-based system allowing limited use of the data generated from these missions. The Medical Mission Data Tracking Software was developed to digitize the Medical Mission process while taking into account the resource-limited environment in which it would be used. Its hardware infrastructure consists of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets that communicate with each other via a private network that can be quickly set up in remote areas of a country. A local web server and an SQL database that is hosted on a notebook computer are used for storing and retrieving patient and health mission data. All mobile devices connect to this web server during the mission. The health care management system consists of the patient registration module, the physician module, and a pharmacy module that facilitate the data collection process. At the end of the mission the local server communicates with a global server to synchronize the data with a global data management system. The software was developed specifically to maximize data collection, management and output in areas with no internet or cellular connectivity during a medical mission. |
