Paper Abstract:
|
Although interpretive paradigm and qualitative research methods have gained attention in the IS field over the past three decades, it is not the case for Executive Information Systems (EIS) research. This paper, firstly, examines the paradigmatic and methodological assumptions of EIS research. Positivist research was found widely used in EIS research because it is generally considered easier to obtain data from senior executives. However, executives work is characterised as brevity, variety and discontinuity, and executives information attribute is soft-oriented and mess-processing related. The positivist paradigm that employs quantitative research methods will not be appropriate to explore in-depth views from senior executives. This study uses focus group and semi-structured interviews to explore and identify executive criteria for intelligent EIS design. Computer-aided qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) is used for the analysis of the findings. This paper provides detailed descriptions of the interview research method and analysis and presents critical reflections on the adopted approaches. |
