Paper Abstract:
|
Due to mobile devices' prevalence, mobile health applications can provide healthcare education to populations that might
not otherwise have access to it. A mobile health app was developed to teach about the prevention and treatment of
hypertension and diabetes. This app was specifically designed and tailored for an Indian population since these
noncommunicable diseases are large contributors to death in Indian adults. A population of migrant Indian workers located
in Hong Kong was given healthcare instruction through the app. They showed statistically significant improvement on a
pre/post-test about both hypertension and diabetes after interacting with the videos and game in the app. This demonstrates
the effectiveness of mobile health apps at providing targeted healthcare education. |
