Paper Abstract:
|
Design science research (DSR) is a research paradigm with great potential in information systems (IS) research, but it may
be challenging for researchers wanting to apply this relatively new approach, to choose and then apply a methodology to a
specific problem. The aim of this paper is to describe an example of how the design science research paradigm, as well as
a design science research framework, can be applied to a specific research problem. The ontological and epistemological
assumptions of design science research, as well as different perspectives of design science research are discussed. The
design science research framework, guidelines established by authors known for their contribution in design science
research can offer researchers the opportunity to easily utilize this research paradigm in their research. A study investigating
data modelling approaches in data warehouse is used as an example of the application of design science research. This
example should provide students and researchers early in their research career with one example of how to apply all of
these to do design science research. |
