Paper Abstract:      The study is based on the fact that university theses are an important part of studies and enable to investigate to what extent the study intended outputs were met. They are the university public output, which can be an indicator of the overall quality of its educational activity. Besides the positive impact, the current processes of massification, internationalisation and digitalisation can influence the overall study effects including the quality of theses. The quality of theses can be ensured by a range of organisational measures, especially the assigned supervisor of the thesis, study sources, their dual assessment by the supervisor and the opponent as well as their defence in front of an examining board. The study analyses the number and sources used using several criteria, including the criterion of the digitalisation of sources, during past six years at two faculties at the University of Ostrava. It answers the questions about the present state of using separated sources in Bachelor and Master theses and what the relevant tendencies are and whether there is a relation between the quantity of sources in theses and the result of their defence.
