Paper Abstract:      This paper reviews existing literature on the role and types of information and communication technology (ICT) in managing chronic diseases (CD) among children and adolescent (C&A) populations. With the rise in population levels globally and the growing prevalence of CDs, many individuals including C&As are likely to experience the adverse effects associated with CD, including decreased quality of life, decreased physical performance, frequent hospitalisations and long periods of sick leave. Interestingly, many studies have reported that the use of various ICT tools can play a role in the treatment and management of CDs. ICTs can help patients and their parents access and retrieve valuable information about CDs. They can also help make self-care or self-management more effective. This review indicates that the most common ICT tools that parents and patients can use in the management of CD are video conferencing, integrated self-management systems and mobile phone applications. This review also reveals significant limitations in the existing research such as the trust in health information sources, challenges in education, use of multiple ICT tools to manage chronic disease, nature of awareness, and improve the effectiveness and the use of ICT tools.
