Paper Abstract:      This paper examines the technological and pedagogical challenges involved in adapting a well-established face-to-face educational law and ethics course into a hybrid course containing online modules. Placed against the backdrop of Downes (2006) and Siemens (2006) connective learning models, the study identifies some of the key constraints that exist within a teacher education programs that affect the ability to use e-learning to supporting authentic learning and interaction in an online environment. The study focuses on the level of interactivity and engagement achieved during online modules and examines the impact of institutional constraints on the ability of of the hybrid model of delivery to support the instructional goals of the course. Findings from the study highlight a strong preference for face-to-face interaction and explore the role that student perception and program planning play in the perceived value of the online learning experience.
