Paper Abstract:
|
The Internet is in constant evolution. New applications demand network guarantee levels beyond the best-effort approach can offer. Two extensions to the Internet architecture were proposed in order to provide new Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees: Integrated Services and Differentiated Services. We present a tool, denominated Trafficanalyzer that consists of TrafficGen and TrafficCheck modules. The TrafficGen module generates IP packages according with a desired pattern and the TrafficCheck verifies them when they reach to destination. The tool considers the DSCP field at the generation and analysis stages. The QoS parameters are checked out measuring delay, jitter, flow and packages loss on the fly. The TrafficGen module is based on Libnet [Libnet Project] library and the TrafficCheck module is based on Libpcap [Tcpdump Project] library. The Trafficanalyzer is being developed in the MS-Windows environment and does not suffer from portability and performance problems as the current tools available that are based on UNIX/LINUX operating system. It is desired to give a contribution to network researchers and network administrators constructing a useful tool to help network analyses on the fly. In the research area, The Trafficanalyzer will break through the limitation of available tools, especially in the hybrid environments (UNIX/MS-WINDOWS) and QoS aware networks. |
