Paper Abstract:
|
Virtual communities become more and more interesting for different purposes of companies because of their increasing usage and acceptance in the general public. However there is a deficiency regarding the understanding of typical elements and architectures of virtual communities. This hampers the systematic and purposeful usage and management of virtual communities by companies. This motivates a model-based approach for describing the typical conceptual architecture of virtual communities. Based on an extensive literature analysis and an empirical analysis of existing virtual communities a multidimensional reference model was constructed by using the UML. The reference architecture model integrates sociological, technical and socio-technical layers and elements of virtual communities and thus provides a holistic overview that can be used in systems engineering, IT business alignment and (model-based) management overall. The construction process included the consolidation and integration of typologies. |
