Paper Abstract:
|
The paper presents the early stages of a project in the making: Belongings. A multisensory experience of Australian migration heritage. Addressing questions related to a broader discourse of interactivity such as intersubjectivity, affect, embodiment, sensory interrelations and memory, the paper investigates the creative and critical thinking involved in the design of interfaces that enable audiences to interact with material records from heritage archives. At the intersection between exhibition design, art, digital media and storytelling this interpretive approach to experience making with interactive media uses the Interactivated Reading Table to create a narrative environment that is responsive to the audiences movements, choices, and interests within a museum space. The project adapts a prototype tangible interface integrating RFID technology into physical objects to create a mixed media experience for users. It enables access to multimedia content through interaction with archival material records. Audiences performing in this narrative environment actively initiate a gestural conversation between the present and the past. |
