Paper Abstract:
|
Software development is a social process in which time is an important factor for project success. Each team member
uses his/her own time concept, in the interaction with others during system development work. Conflicts and
misunderstandings arise when team members have different time concepts especially in ways of evaluating and managing
time. In the light of cross-cultural issues and Structuration theory, this paper presents and discusses how different
concepts of time in cross-culture software development team lead to different behaviours. Drawing on data from a case
study the paper presents and discusses a number of issues regarding times role during the software developing process.
This article argues that the time concept is an important cultural factor which affects the progress of the IS development
project. Understanding the time concept in software developing projects from a cultural perspective is a critical factor and
it is important to reduce conflicts and misunderstandings. |
