Paper Abstract:
|
Libraries have a long tradition of measurement. From books to visitors and reference questions to journal subscriptions, librarians have used measurements to illustrate the value of the library. In this time of budget constraints though, administrators, taxpayers and funders are taking a hard look at finances and demanding return on their investments. At the same time, digital libraries have become increasingly important library services and have become an increasingly larger share of the librarys budget. To fully demonstrate the value of digital libraries and justify the cost, librarians should evaluate and communicate using economic valuations. This paper reviews economic valuation methods that could, and should, be applied to digital libraries. |
