Paper Abstract:
|
This paper introduces sustainable transportation and its role in public health improvement. It goes through the effect of
Transportation policy and planning decisions in health. It discusses the Sustainable Transportation Area of impact in
terms of Traffic Accidents, Pollution Emissions, Physical Activity and Fitness, Mental Health Impacts, Affordability, and
Basic Mobility. This paper indicates that public transit improvements and more transit-oriented development can provide
largely but often-overlooked health benefits. People who live or add communities with high-quality conveyance tend to
drive significantly less and rely more on alternative modes (walking, cycling, and public transit) than they would in more
automobile-oriented areas. This reduces traffic crashes and pollution emissions increase physical fitness and mental
health, and provides access to medical care and healthy food. |
