Paper Abstract:
|
The large amount of existing studies on how the internet affects democratic practice fails to cover two elements of fundamental relevance. Technology changes people and the digital self may imply a shift in the way individuals conceive of activism and politics. The understanding of the digital self and its relationship with politics, as well as of the possible incentives for online political action, are key to institutional design of future democracies. Because there is a dearth of empirical studies that investigate the several aspects of motivation to engage in politics online, this paper outlines research avenues that could address this important question. |
