Paper Abstract:
|
A website must be accessible to have value, meaning that people are able locate a specific topic right away without
follow links or prearranged navigation tools. A search tool gives value-added functionality to a website and a chance for
its visitors to find information focused on a specific topic or area. Configured as a web information retrieval problem, the
solution often needs an intranet search engine, and the software choice depends on different requirements (i.e. price,
platform, capacity, ease of installation, maintenance). This paper describes three possible existing software
implementations tested for the specific aim of providing web visitors with an easy and quick way to find a topic despite
its specific file format (i.e. text, audio, video). The solutions differ in the programming languages used for their
development and in the way they store the index of search terms, which may be successfully used in the context of a text
or html collections but present some challenges in dealing with audio and video content. |
