Paper Abstract:
|
In Open Source platforms, software maintenance is performed by giving feedback and a defects report to the vendor and
asking for corrections. The corrections cover enhancement, and predictive and preventive maintenance. The vendors do
not cover customizing activities about the Open Source software. In this case, the term customization refers to changing
technical parts or the source code to be more compatible and to meet the requirements. For this type of maintenance, the
corrections are usually performed by each user or the problem is solved by joining certain forums and asking which
means talking about the software specifically. In Malaysia, Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the main subject in
industrial sectors. All of these SMEs should make an effort to compete with the other companies. In dealing with the
competition, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is necessary in order to increase the effectiveness and thoroughness of
production and so be ready to face the competition. Many Malaysian SMEs have implemented Open Source ERP because
it has many advantages although it needs maintenance to suit the architecture of the Malaysian SME. The needs of
integrating Open Source ERP to make it more compatible with Malaysian SMEs are mentioned during interview session
with two Malaysian SMEs. In order to meet the requirement of integrating Open Source ERP, we have selected the
Osborne model to be the guidance in maintaining the system. This paper presents the integration of Malaysian SME
business functionality into the ERP system. A proposed system is a pre-requisite in validating the model of the proposed
ERP software maintenance. The software maintenance process is implemented using Eclipse as the compiler,
PostgreSQL as DBMS and JASPER Report for reporting. The result of the interview section will be summarized as a
problem statement which consists of the requirement of the ERP system from the point of view Malaysian SMEs. The
brief technical step of database migration, replication and customizing the code has also been presented in this paper. |
