Paper Abstract:
|
The commercial web site privacy statement is the common method of providing web site users with information about the organizations use of personal information. In spite of their widespread use, there is a substantial variation in the content and accessibility of web site privacy statements. This study examines the question of how web site privacy statement characteristics affect the comfort level of web site users. The results of this study identify characteristics of web site privacy statements that affect the comfort level of the user in submitting personal information to the commercial web site that is required for electronic business transactions. The results demonstrate that the comfortable level of web site users is significantly affected by some specific privacy statement characteristics and that firms could increase the user comfort level of providing personal information to a web site by the construction of the privacy statement. |
