Paper Abstract:
|
This study investigates the effects of sex and Internet usage on online search patterns and task performance. One hundred and nine participants performed goal-oriented search tasks on websites from various sectors in laboratory. Results show that Internet usage improves mens search effectiveness (number of clicks and time spent performing task) and search efficiency (number of dead ends encountered) but Internet usage has no impact on womens performance. Results mostly support the selectivity model (Meyers-Levy, 1989) whereby women are comprehensive processors and men selective ones. |
