Paper Abstract:
|
The purpose of the study was to determine if the adoption of web-based simulations for assessing student learning had an effect upon student retention and grade distribution. Using data from a previous study (Casolara, 2002) as a basis; data for courses taught during the 2004-05 academic year using on-line simulations were compared with respect to grade distributions and attrition/retention of students. Using the withdrawal rate as an indicator of attrition, student attrition decreased by about 27% while the grade distributions showed a marked shift from a grade of A to Bs and Cs. Recommendations are included. |
