Paper Abstract:
|
Teaching practices in universities are being influenced greatly by the Internet. Adding an online discussion board to the course is one way in which the Internet is utilized as a means of education. This virtual forum allows students to ask questions and further classroom debates. However, the inclusion of digital technologies in any educational situation involving students with varying computer-use abilities must be considered in terms of both the benefits and disadvantages. This paper investigates the discussion forum used by students of a humanities course at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. The study found that overall the forum was of benefit. My recommendation for the online discussion board however, is that it remains an option rather than a gradable component |
