Paper Abstract:      This paper provides an exploration of the acquisition and consumption behaviour of modern recorded music consumers by investigating (1) how modern consumers acquire and consume recorded music, and (2) which kind of perceptions of relative advantages and disadvantages drive their usage of specific acquisition channels. The paper aims at approaching the topic from an interpretive and comprehensive perspective and is based on an interview study of 14 young Finnish recorded music consumers. The results of the study show that the acquisition channel choices in the context of recorded music consumption are driven by a very diverse set of perceptions on the relative advantages and disadvantages associated with the channels, and these perceptions also vary vastly from one consumer to another. This variety should be better understood when formulating future models for explaining and predicting consumer behaviour in this topical area.
