Paper Abstract:
|
Business Intelligence (BI) as a concept and technological solution aims to aggregate, synthesise and report data from distributed and heterogeneous sources into an enterprise view for supporting organisational decision-making and strategic planning. This paper outlines a case study investigation conducted in a higher education institution that has developed and implemented an intelligent student engagement tracking system (SETS) for supporting institutional decision-making. However, the current SETS has a number of shortcomings. A funded project was carried out aiming to enhance the current SETS with BI solutions. The main objectives of the research are to benchmark the institutions BI maturity level, to identify the BI toolkit requirements specification and to develop and implement BI solutions to improve SETS. Research involved undertaking surveys, interviews and focus groups with existing and potential users of SETS. The paper reports findings from our empirical investigations which provide useful insights into issues related to the applications of BI in Higher Education institutions. |
