Paper Abstract:
|
The content diversity of the Internet often remains hidden, since we are unaware of the amount of information available.
With the increasing text volume also offered by social media tools, it becomes more and more difficult to find the right
place for seeking to fulfill a specific information need. This paper tries to give an overview on the medical content
available by presenting results of a content analysis. In particular, the content of different medical social media tools is
compared to each other (answer portals, weblogs, etc.). For this purpose, medical concepts are extracted from text with
existing extraction technology. The extracted information is exploited to describe and analyze the content of these
information sources. Substantial differences in content of various health-related Web resources can be identified. The
results show which resource and author group provides information on certain health topics to the largest extent. This
knowledge can provide the starting point to describe user information needs, to detect the best suited information source
and to help to direct users while searching. |
