Paper Abstract:      Globalisation and advances in computing technologies have changed the software project management environment. Currently software projects are developed and deployed in distributed, pervasive and collaborative environments and traditional project management methods cannot, and do not, address the added complexities inherent to this environment. Thus, there is a need for new methods and measures to support the software project management process. In this paper software agents are investigated as a potential tool to assist with the enhancement of software project management processes. In particular the authors propose to enhance software project management processes with a software agent framework, which forms part of the SPMSA model. A prototype is developed for the risk management function area of this model, to prove that the model, and specifically the agent framework, is not merely a theoretical concept, but can indeed be implemented. This research shows promise of significant results in enabling software developers to meet market expectations, and produce projects timeously, within budget and to users’ satisfaction.
