Paper Abstract:      The social transformations of the digital revolution include a change in the formation of communities from physical networks to virtual, e-communities constantly in flux. This study evaluates the role of User Generated Content (UGC) and users’ online social networking in the development and maintenance of these e-communities on news aggregation sites. By analyzing the leading news aggregators in comparison to survey data garnered from subjects about their participatory preferences in news oriented blog communities, this study provides a unique opportunity to express the distinctive function news aggregators can have, and are having for users’ citizenship online.
