Paper Abstract:
|
Accelerated by the rapid spread of leading social media like Facebook, Google+, Twitter or YouTube criminal activities and offences are becoming an increasing phenomenon in the social part of the web sphere. Moreover, new social media-specific forms of delinquency arose in the last years, such as calling thousands of people to criminal activities on social networking sites or arranging sexual contact to under-age people using fake profiles. Consequently, solutions counteracting social media crime as a sub-category of cybercrime have become increasingly relevant. Several studies dealing with social media crime phenomena such as cyber grooming, social engineering, cyber stalking, cyber bullying, profile cloning, and cyber mobbing do already exist. However, a scientifically elaborated and well-founded overview, classification and taxonomy within this topic still remain a desideratum. This reflection paper summarizes the current situation with its challenges and suggests an approach to deliver fundamental insights on social media crime towards a common understanding resulting in better awareness and prevention strategies. |
