Paper Abstract:
|
This study examined the effectiveness of a self-learning program that aimed to enhance learning motivation among students taking a university psychology course. A web-based program called Smart Learners was constructed to provide various self-learning materials for students to use voluntarily. Students changes in achievement goals, self-efficacy, and achievement emotions, in addition to their learning effort and course performance were examined as outcomes variables. The results demonstrated that students who participated in Smart Learners more frequently showed increased self-efficacy, higher learning effort, and better course performance at the end of the course. The effect of Smart Learners participation on course performance was not mediated by self-efficacy and learning effort. In addition, the favorable effects of Smart Learners seemed to be attributed mainly to the generic learning components of Smart Learners. Directions for future development of similar web-based self-learning tools are discussed based on these findings. |
