Paper Abstract:
|
This paper discusses a simple approach/design to an extensible rule-based Alarm correlation framework using XML and XSD which can be used in heterogeneous Network elements whose alarms are compliant with ITU (International Telecommunication Union) specification. Rules for alarm correlation, consists of two parts namely, condition and action. Actions are performed based on evaluation of condition. Rules are defined using subset of Alarm attributes which are derived from ITU specification. Defining rules in XML, aids in parsing using various XML parsers and validating for correctness in meaning, format, order, value-range, uniqueness using XML Schema Definition (XSD). This approach reduces the code complexity of the framework significantly. Programmable interfaces are provided to add user-defined Alarm attributes, user-defined XML rules and its corresponding handler implementations which make it extensible. Framework is implemented as shared library which can be linked and extended by applications to the needs of different types of Network elements. |
