Paper Abstract:
|
RFID is a new technology that has received widespread use over the last decade. This study focuses on giving an overview of this technology as well as investigating factors that affect the intention to adopt this technology in an Arab country by using a mixed approach of data collection (quantitative and qualitative). The qualitative study shows some fields of its application as well as its advantages and potential obstacles toward its spread in Kuwait. Quantitative approach focused on a sample of 144 participants and the qualitative approach involves interviewing an expert in RFID. Main results reveal that RFID is in its early stages of adoption and is applied in very narrow fields (hospitals, banks and supermarkets) and is still not widely spread in Kuwait. In addition, the results reveal four important factors that may affect the intention to adopt RFID in Kuwait. These factors are relative advantage, complexity, trust, and privacy and security. However, this study did not test the direct paths from the four exogenous variables to the intention to use RIFD. Results of this study are important to advance the theory and practice of RFID in developing countries. |
